The Rose L. Dakss Award

The Rose L. Dakss memorial award is presented to a student who has demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in early childhood and elementary education.

Lucille Weistuch Memorial Award

The Lucille Weistuch Memorial Award was created in 2003 in memory of our treasured colleague, Dr. Lucille Weistuch.  The award goes to an outstanding graduate student who will carry on Dr. Weistuch’s legacy in the field of Early Childhood Special Education.

The Joseph F. Brunner Research Award

Dr. Joseph Brunner was a beloved faculty member in the literacy program for many years. This award goes to students in recognition of outstanding research in the field of literacy education.

Maria Schantz Outstanding Graduate Student in Literacy Award

The Maria Schantz Outstanding Graduate Student in Literacy Award goes to a student who has excelled in our Master’s degree program in Reading, and in recognition of outstanding accomplishments as a Graduate student in Literacy.

Frances Greb Memorial Award

The Frances Greb Memorial award recognizes the outstanding contributions made by cooperating teachers or adjunct clinical faculty who have made a positive impact on early childhood/elementary pre-service teacher preparation during student teaching, Clinical II practicum.

Dr. Susan Wray Scholarship Fund

Dr. Susan Wray was committed to improving the quality of teacher education, teaching for equity and social justice of all students, and the professionalization of pre- and in-service teacher leaders. Her legacy continues to influence teacher education in the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, and Literacy Education through The Dr. Susan Wray Endowed Graduate Scholarship. This annual award will recognize the outstanding achievement of an early childhood or elementary graduate teacher education student who demonstrates a commitment to teaching for equity and social justice in urban schools.

epiSTEMic Program Internship

The epiSTEMic Program is an inclusive program that provides learners across grades K-8 and high school to engage in hands-on, inquiry-based, interdisciplinary STEM programming for enrichment and core competencies development. Advanced pre-service students are hired as paid interns to participate in curriculum development, lead instruction, engage with and learn from children, mentor new pre-service students and work with faculty to apply pedagogy with practice.
